BLADE SIZES AND SUGGESTED USES Size 40 Blade Leaves hair 1/100", 0.25 mm long Best used for ears, eyes and pads and is more generally used with Clip on (AKA Universal, Snap On, Guide, Attachment, Guard) combs to achieve uniform and longer hair lengths...I do also sell the clip-on comb sets separately. The Size 40 Blade if used without a comb attachment should only be used by experienced groomers as it cuts very close. An ideal blade for show poodles. This blade is also used by veterinarians for prepping pets for all types for surgery though a size 50 blade is more commonly used. Size 30 blade has a 1/50" (.5 mm) blade cut A # 30 blade is a "surgical" blade - used alone will cut hair very close.  Can be used on feet or between pads and is more generally used with Clip on (AKA Universal, Snap On, Guide, Attachment, Guard) combs to achieve uniform and longer hair lengths...I do also sell the clip-on comb sets separately. Size 15 blade leaves hair 3/64"/1.2mm. Frequently used on ears, feet, tail base, face, sanitary area and throat. Common blade for Horse Grooming/Clipping. Also can be used for very short cuts on body of any breed. The Size 15 Blade is often used on Poodles for clipper work on the face, feet and tail. The Size 15 Blade is ideal when the Size 10 Blade is not smooth enough and a Size 30 Blade is too close. This blade can also be used for sanitary prep. # 10- leaves hair 1.8mm /1/16" long *MOST COMMONLY USED Size 10 clipper blades have a 1/16" blade cut (1.8 mm) that’s ideal for underbelly work, terrier ears, and poodle faces— a good choice if a fairly close and smooth finish is desired Ideal for underbelly work, terrier ears, and poodle faces Often used for stripping coats when the mats are close to the skin A popular choice for groomers who are doing body work on schnauzers. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc. Finish or “F" (also referred to as FC or Finish Cut ) Blades (Note: HLD only available in 4F, 5F, 7F sizes) 4F, 5F, 7F (also referred to as 4FC, 5FC, 7FC, etc) The teeth on these blades are even, creating a smoother finish. Can be used before and after the bath. Used for a smoother finish or full shavedowns. Work best on coats that are clean, Mostly free from mats, dry and brushed out. Size 4F Blade (also called 4FC or 4SE) has a 3/8" / 9.5 mm Blade Cut Full/Finish cut blade can be used as a finish blade for a size 4 Skip Tooth blade, also for body work on short-legged terriers (westie, etc.) and poodles, and short puppy cuts on Lhasa’s or any other breed. This blade can be used for body work or clips on any breed. Also used against the lie of the coat of thick-coated Springers or Cockers for a very short but very smooth look. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc Size 5F Blade (also called 5FC or 5SE) has a 1/4" / 6mm Blade Cut Most often used to achieve a smooth, short "lamb" like clip or finish on any breed. Is effective for finishing the coat after trimming with a #5 skip tooth blade Leaves a nice finished length on the coats of wire, welsh, and Lakeland terriers Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc Size 7F Clipper Blade (also called 7FC 7SE) has a 1/8" (3.2 mm) blade cut. # 7F - Finish Cut blade can be used as a finishing blade for a Size 7 Skip-Tooth, as well as for body work on any breed. Frequently used on unmatted cats. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc. Skip Tooth Blades (also called saw tooth blades) - 4, 5 or 7 (Note:HLD Only available in size 7) A NOTE regarding Skip Tooth Blades Skip Tooth Blades are generally used instead of a finish cut blade when: Hair or coat is heavily matted or for VERY thick coats.-The coarse or uneven teeth on a Skip Tooth will feed the hair into the cutting blade more effectively, which allows you to clip under mats. Often used before the bath for rough-cuts, and on dogs that must be shaved completely down. Perfect for blending short areas with longer lengths. Ideal for coarse-coated breeds such as Terriers A hair cut using a skip tooth blade is generally "finished" off with the same size finish blade to give coat a smooth, finished appearance...for example: if you cut hair with a 7 skip-tooth blade, finish off with a 7F blade Be extra Careful when using as skip tooth blade as they cut closer to the skin. Skip Tooth blades are not recommended to be used on cats. Size 7 Skip Tooth Clipper Blade has a 1/8" (3.2 mm) blade cut. This blade can be used for body work on any breed. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc. The shortest of the skip tooth blades, the Size 7 is used frequently on very matted dog coats. The Size 7 Skip Tooth blade cuts through mats that other length blades cannot penetrate. The coat is more accessible to the cutting blade because of the flat design of this blade. The teeth are more open which allows the coat to be cut easier than the 7F blade with its full teeth.
